Regional News

Lincolnshire Neurological Alliance has printed 45,000 leaflets explaining the Alliance’s role and how it can put people with neurological conditions in touch with a specialist support group via one helpline. Callers will be given details of groups operating locally, or nationally. Produced following requests from Consultants and GP's for a single point of contact, LNA is grateful for the support of the Medlock Charitable Fund. Copies of the leaflet are being distributed to Hospitals, Surgeries, Libraries, Dentists, Opticians, Health Clinics and CAB offices throughout the County.

140 people attended West Berks Neurological Alliance’s April conference and the event was up to the very highest standards. Fundraising for the specialist nurse for rare conditions has passed £82k, and recruitment is under way. They are ready with a host of ideas for implementation of the LTC NSF.

Cambridgeshire Neurological Alliance's focus is on developing specialist services for those affected by M.E./CFS. Following a successful bid for £172,000 for the region, 5 years ago, they are now seeking funding for a specialist outreach counsellor for those with severe M.E., and for those who are bed or house bound because of their condition.

Greater Manchester Neurological Alliance has suffered a setback in the resignation of their new Development Worker after only three weeks in post. Urgent discussions are taking place to agree the next moves. They have had their AGM and their new Chair is Mike Harnor. Marie Oxtoby is now Deputy Chair and Barbara Tew remains as Secretary.

Lancashire and South Cumbria Neurological Alliance is now a registered company. They now have a website www.lascna.co.uk too. Information on their successful general meeting is available on their site. Guest speakers were Alison Bali and Sandra Paget.

The NSF is going to have major implications for regional alliances. Their role is going to be more important than ever because responsibility for implementation will lie with trusts. Pressure to implement the NSF’s service requirements will need to come from a local level.
