MND Association launches 2010 Manifesto

On 17 February, the MND Association launched its manifesto, calling on the Government to produce a National Strategy for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Currently no national guidance exists to set standards of care for people with MND and without this, care can be fragmented, inaccessible, untimely and of poor quality. A National Strategy is urgently needed to ensure equity of access to high quality care and support from the NHS and social services across the country, to enable people with MND to achieve the highest quality of life possible and to die with dignity.

The campaign is being fronted by the former Chief Inspector of Schools, Chris Woodhead, who was diagnosed with MND in 2006. Chris appeared on the Today programme on Radio Four and wrote a feature for The Sunday Times about the campaign and living with MND. So far over 7,000 people have signed the petition calling for a national strategy. The petition will be delivered to Downing St after the General Election.
