Who we’re looking for
We are looking for a range of individuals to assist the Neurological Alliance Trustee Board with strategic leadership, guidance and specialised advice to help ensure that the organisation is well managed, forward thinking and resources are used appropriately.
Advisors will:
- Act as an ambassador for the Neurological Alliance and uphold our ethics and values
- Be supportive of the mission, vision and goals of the Alliance (https://www.neural.org.uk/about-us/) including a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and involvement of people affected by neurological conditions in our work and those we seek to influence
- Assist the Board and staff to provide leadership in forming strategy, setting policy and achieving the aims through objectives which can be monitored.
- Offer specialist advice and support to the Board of Trustees to support the continuous development and improvement of the charity.
- Offer advice and support to the staff team regarding the continuous development and improvement of the charity.
- Assist staff to network within the wider health and care sector.
Advisors will act as observers to the Board, and do not participate directly in decision-making.
We are keen to hear from people who have specific experience and expertise in:
- The health and pharmaceutical industry
- Clinical expertise of relevance to people suspected of or living with neurological conditions.
- Public Affairs and public policy expertise, particularly in health
- Digital and data transformation
Time commitment
Up to six full working days per year at a minimum for three years, to attend board meetings and sub committees as required, and our annual strategy away day (generally held face to face in London). Advisors are not expected to attend every Board meeting, only those relevant to their area of expertise.

This post is not remunerated however essential travel and subsistence expenses are payable on completion of our expenses form. People with lived experience will be compensated in line with the Alliance’s remuneration policy and processes.

About you
We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds and walks of life, particularly people from often underrepresented groups. For this role, we are looking for someone with:
- Experience and expertise in at least one of the following areas: The health and pharmaceutical industry; Clinical expertise of relevance to people suspected of or living with neurological conditions; Public Affairs and public policy expertise, particularly in health; and digital and data transformation.
- Excellent communication and team-working skills.
- The ability to provide sound advice to the Board and staff team on your area of expertise.
- An understanding of measures of success in your area of expertise.
- A knowledge of the type of work undertaken by the Alliance as well an understanding of the voluntary sector and other relevant networks.
- A commitment to the time required to fulfil the role.
