Neurological Alliance response to the NHS 10-Year Plan
03/07/2025
The Government today published its new 10-Year Plan for the NHS. The Plan sets out the Government’s vision to move care closer to home, harness digital innovation, and prioritise prevention of ill health.
Plan strong in ambition and requires collaborative implementation
We welcome elements of the Plan that could improve outcomes for people affected by neurological conditions and are in line with many of our tests for the Plan, such as: encouraging care closer to home through neighbourhood health centres; accessible care plans for people with complex conditions; expanded access to Personal Health Budgets; and access to your care records.
The Plan’s commitment to making the NHS more transparent could help people affected by neurological conditions – and those working to improve services, like our members – make informed choices and push for change.
But these initiatives will only make a real difference if they are delivered well and shaped around the needs of people affected by neurological conditions and the neuro workforce. That is why we are encouraging everyone to sign our open letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, calling for urgent, dedicated action for people affected by neurological conditions.
People affected by neurological conditions cannot wait another decade for change
Georgina Carr, CEO, Neurological Alliance, said:
“Just 1 in 3 people with a neurological condition recently reported in our survey that healthcare meets their needs. The Plan includes measures which could improve this picture, such as making NHS data on access and experience of services publicly available and delivering care as close to home as possible.
Now we need a clear implementation plan for neurological care – without this, we risk leaving the 1 in 6 living with a neurological condition behind.
We call on the Government to go further, faster and fairer, with a dedicated implementation plan for neurological care and urgent action to retain and grow the specialist workforce in the forthcoming workforce plan. People with neurological conditions cannot wait another decade for change.”

What next?
£29 billion in additional funding will support the delivery of the Plan over the next decade. This investment is intended to fund service transformation, digital infrastructure, and the expansion of community-based care. The Plan however notes that “the pace of delivering the commitments over the full 10 years… will be subject to future decisions… such as Spending Reviews and economic conditions.”
The Neurological Alliance will continue to push for a specific implementation plan for neurological conditions. We will share our open letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Care later this month. Add your voice and sign the open letter by clicking this link.
We will also provide further analysis of the Plan in the coming days, so people affected by neurological conditions and our members gain further clarity on the risks and opportunities within it.
